I've been posting paragraphs from it for the last year in answer to
various questions, but it's now off the presses:

               William H. Calvin & George A. Ojemann

                  CONVERSATIONS WITH NEIL'S BRAIN
The Neural Nature of Thought and Language
              (Addison-Wesley, 1994, US$24 hardcover)

It is primarily about the anatomy and physiology of primate cerebral
cortex, with quite a lot of human material (the setting of the book is
narrating a day of neurosurgery on an epileptic, Neil, who is undergoing
language and memory testing prior to a temporal lobectomy for seizure
control). Major topics include hemispheric specialization, selective
attention, how neurons and synapses work, memory phenomena and its
cellular basis, major mental disorders, and primate visual system
organization, but the emphasis is on the puzzles inherent in the brain's
organization for language and consciousness.

The table of contents and the entire first chapter can be retrieved via
gopher from:
                          gopher.well.com
                              Science
It can hopefully be found at your favorite bookstore by the end of April.
The bookstore that carries all of my books (even the ones out of print)
is the University Book Store, 4326 University Way N.E., Seattle WA
98105 USA (phone 1-206-634-3400, fax 1-206-634-0810 for credit card
orders) and they have free shipping in the US.
