  >There have been quite a few papers in Nature recently about the biology
  >of the nematode worm C. elegans, and in particular its neurobiology and
  >development; it is clearly one of the better understood multicellular
  >organisms. Can anyone direct me to a book (or perhaps a collection of
  >papers) summarising what is known about the organism?

_The Nematode Caenorhabditis elegans_, William Wood, ed. Cold Spring Harbor
Laboratory Press, 1988. ISBN 0-87969-307-X. A bit out-of-date by now,
but pretty much every new worm person buys a copy.

Specifically of neurobiological interest: "The Structure of the
Nervous System of the Nematode Caenorhabditis elegans", J. White, E.
Southgate, J.N. Thomson, S. Brenner. Philisophical Transactions of
the Royal Society of London B314:1-340, 1986. Also known as the "Mind
of the Worm", this is the monograph that describes the 3D
reconstruction of the nematode's neural anatomy from EM serial
sections. Somewhat difficult to get hold of. I got my copy as a
birthday present from an amazingly thoughtful person - I think you can
write or call the Royal Society for reprints.
