Biorepositories: An Automation Frontier
Dear Colleagues,
LRIG is hosting a special meeting on biorepositories with an emphasis on how
automation may solve problems with expanding collections. The meeting
consists of a technology exhibition and social period followed by
presentations and discussion. It will take place at the Somerset Marriott in
Somerset, NJ from 3:00-9:00 PM on January 11, 2007. Details may be found at
<http://lab-robotics.org/Mid_Atlantic/meetings/0701.htm>.
Dr. David Toke, Associate Managing Director of the Rutgers University Cell
and DNA Repository, will share his professional expertise on:
* managing large volumes of specimens and data generated from research
* enabling public and private organizations to share data to enhance the
research process
* addressing the short and long term storage and logistics needs of
biorepositories
* meeting HIPAA and IRB compliance requirements and patient consent
restrictions
Jim Vaught, Ph.D.; Special Assistant for Biorepository Science, Division of
Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute will speak
about the National Cancer Institute's recent initiatives in biospecimen
research and policy including a discussion of NCI's recently published
biorepository guidelines.
John Williams, Ph.D.; Director, Pfizer Global Research & Development will
present on the automated Pfizer Biofluids BioBank.
Donald L. Coppock, Ph.D.; Assistant Director of the Coriell Cell
Repositories, Coriell Institute for Medical Research will present on the
HapMat Project.
Stephanie Mohr, Ph.D.; Manager, PSI Materials Repository of the Harvard
Institute of Proteomics, Harvard Medical School will discuss Shared
Materials Repositories at the Harvard Institute of Proteomics.
