The Environmental Sciences Division (ESD) at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory (ORNL) has immediate openings for one or more post-graduate
research associates to support ongoing projects in microbial ecology,
microbial physiology, and modeling of microbial communities.
ESD assembles interdisciplinary teams focusing on understanding
processes that drive the Earth's environmental and ecological systems.
ESD scientists conduct research, develop tech-nology, and perform
analyses to understand Earth's systems. By expanding scientific
knowledge and developing technological solutions, we strengthen the
nation's leadership in addressing important environmental solutions.
Fellowship opportunities currently exist in our Microbial
Biogeochemistry and Biotechnology focus area. Investigations of
microbial processes at the ecosystem, population, organism, and gene
function levels are emphasized with a focus on harnessing the
capabilities of microbial systems to address challenges in environmental
remediation, synthesis of bioproducts, carbon sequestration and other
applications.

The successful fellowship candidate must have:
--graduate degree within the last five years in microbiology or
microbial ecology
--experience or education in molecular microbiology and individual-based
modeling to study the dynamics of microbial biofilm communities
This fellowship provides the successful candidate
--opportunities to interact with leading researchers in environmental
sciences, ecology, computer sciences, earth sciences, and biogeochemistry
--experience at one of the premiere national laboratories
