Why would E. coli even grow on Mannitol Salt? Do your homework - what
type of organism(s) is Mannitol Salt used for? Think about whether the
question even makes sense at all.
Isolating pathogens is ALL about which medium you use for what pathogen.
Certain ones screen for certain things and inhibit, while others grow
pretty much everything. Mannitol salt is a differential medium, which
enables it to suppress certain types of organisms and allow others to
grow. This should be enough clue for you to figure this out. All answers
are not easily derived. In micro you have to do some thinking.
