Well, the fecal matter may come from a diseased person or animal. Otherwise,
if the strain is not pathogenic, it will not become pathogenic if you just
grow it on some medium. For example, you can grow some photosynthetic
bacteria in the dark, but this does not make them not capable of
photosynthesis if you transfer them in the appropriate environment.
