The lenght of a proteins is simply determined by counting the number of
amino acid residues starting from the first, typically methionine.
However, if the protein is post translationally modified by cleavage at
the N or C terminal or in some cases a midsection is actually cleaved
out and the flanking ends are actually ligated together or a residue is
added, then the number of residues may be reported as the modified
protein length not the encoded length.
Perhaps in this case the methionine is cleaved post translationally.
