I agree staphurex is the best slide coagulase I have used, faecal type
streptococci give false positive reactions.  We also run a DNA agar plate
through our staph breakpoints to look for DNAse activity.  We have moved
onto screening MRSA with a oxoid ready made media using oxacillin but in the
past have used a mannitol salt agar with methicillin and egg yolf to show
lecthinase activity.

There are several different types of media out there that help to ID S.
aureus try mannitol salt, baird-parker for example.
