1. Treat them with chloroform, though you might loose some enzyme
activity.
2. Put them straight into liquid nitrogen, and grind them in a mortar and
pestle.
3. Use a sonic probe ....
The few times I've done this type of work I've used 1 & 3.
Number 2 is a guess, though it might be difficult to fracture bacterial
cells this way, though others will probably give you better methods. Pd.
