: Hi,
:
: I'm a german student and have to do a biological project about genetic
: mutations of corn plant caused by nuclear (alpha-, beta-, gamma-)
radiation.
: Now I need to know how high the energy-dosis has to be to cause visible
: somatic and genetic mutations.

Over a threshold level the higher the energy the lower the mutation for a
given event because it has less opportunity to interact with the DNA of
the corn. X rays or beta particles will give more mutations than the same
number of high energy gamma rays. Alpha particle will not cause much
damage because they can't penetrate to get to the genetic material of the
corn.

I am not sure what neutrons would do.
