The position entails management of a group of microbiologists who are active
in the areas of new product development, customer support and basic
research. The new products being developed include filtration devices used
in critical applications in Biotechnology/Pharmaceutical large-scale product
purification and manufacturing The devices are used primarily to filter
sterilize to reduce virus load of the biopharmaceutical product. Customer
support entails working with customers to define and understand the specific
issue they are trying to resolve, developing test protocols to address these
issues, executing these protocols, and writing detailed reports for the
customer. The basic research is focused on better understanding the
mechanisms by which filters work, to continue to improve the efficiency and
effectiveness of new product development and of filtration in process scale
applications.

In addition to its technical aspects, the position has substantial
management responsibility. The candidate will be required to perform
activities typical of a group manager, and to ensure both the smooth
operation of the group and facilitation of interactions on projects with
other internal functions and project teams.

Job Requirements:

Candidates for this position should have a PhD in microbiology or a related
discipline, and a track record of successful research, which should be
demonstrated in part by a strong publication record. Preference may be given
to persons with experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnological
manufacturing, validation, quality control or development. Experience with
any of the following would be beneficial: post-doctoral research, process
scale filtration, regulatory issues, process validation, USP water and
microbiology testing, statistics and statistical design of experiments, and
engineering concepts. The candidate should be able to interact effectively
with a multidisciplinary group of people, both within the microbiology group
and with other departments within our company. The candidate should have
demonstrated leadership skills and the proven talent to effectively lead a
group of people. The candidate should be able to communicate clearly and
persuasively, and be able to perform well in public speaking.
