International Diagnostics Group plc (IDG), the leading supplier of microbial
risk management products and quality assurance services, announces the
appointment of Organon Teknika Limited as the new UK distributor of LAB M¹s
culture media products for the clinical sector.

For more than twenty-five years, LAB M have been offering an extensive range
of dehydrated media. The success of the LAB M brand to date has been based
on a firm commitment to quality, support and service. That commitment
remains unchanged, but it is now the company¹s intention to seek further to
improve the support and service enjoyed by its customers.

As a major subsidiary of the Akzo Nobel group, Organon Teknika shares with
IDG/LAB M the same business philosophy, values and commitment to customer
care. It is their jointly held view that, by combining the LAB M product
range with that of the BacT/Alert product range, this strategic alliance
will benefit both companies and, most importantly, provide the customer with
an even better level of service and support.

Organon Teknika will take over all aspects of distribution and service on
5th April 2000.
Over the last eight years IDG has become one of Europe¹s leading providers
of microbial risk management products and quality assurance services in the
clinical and industrial microbiology markets, with a particular expertise in
food safety.

As well as LAB M, the IDG group includes such well-known brand names as
Malthus (rapid and automated instrumentation) and Q Laboratories
(microbiological and chemistry testing, consultancy and training). The
group¹s products utilise traditional technologies such as broths, agar
plates and impedance, but an extensive R&D program has culminated in
launches of next-generation products based upon patented technologies. The
HarlequinTM line of Chromogenic Agars and the CaptivateTM line of
Immuno-Magnetic Separation products are already on sale. In addition to
developing their own sales channels, IDG collaborates in contract
development and manufacture with a number of blue chip companies in areas of
specific substrate and immunoassay based products.

Commenting on today¹s announcement, IDG Chief Executive, Dr Allan Syms,
said: "This new alliance with Organon Teknika represents a major vote of
confidence in IDG and a significant milestone in IDG¹s policy of securing
strategic alliances in a number of key areas of its business. Our existing
products are in demand internationally and our philosophy of Œtotal
microbial solutions¹ gives us a definite edge over our competitors. Our R&D
program is now providing a series of new products for early launch, thereby
maintaining IDG¹s position at the forefront of developments in bacteriology.
We are confident that our clinical customers will immediately see the
advantages of our new alliance with Organon Teknika."
