plasmid: hundreds of copies per cell. sometimes well over a
thousand.
chromosome: depending on where in cell cycle, usually 1 or 2
copies. more copies at exotic growth conditions, but far far far
below the hundreds of copies of cloning vectors like pBluescript
etc.
