That statement can be debated. I personally think API 20E is a pain to
inoculate, a pain to handle (it's too jiggly) and just a pain in
general, although I do admit it works. At my previous job, we used BBL
Crystal ID, which was MUCH easier to inoculate, handle, and read, and
there were no reagents to add.
You also didn't mention automated identification. We use VITEK GNI+
cards, and some ID's come out in three hours. The bulk of them are done
in 8 hours, unless they are non-fermenters. Obviously the monetary
layout would be too great for a small lab. I work in a large
microbiology reference laboratory.
