Postdoctoral position to study Ty retrotransposition in yeast

David J. Garfinkel garfinke at ncifcrf.gov
Wed Apr 5 08:57:06 EST 2000

A postdoctoral position is available immediately to investigate the
mechanism and consequences of Ty element transposition in S.
cerevisiae. These mobile genetic elements are structurally and
functionally related to retroviruses and are widely dispersed in
nature. We are interested in host genes that modulate Ty
transposition, the mechanism of Ty virus-like particle formation,
reverse transcription, integration, and copy-number control in naive
strains lacking Ty elements. We are also interested in creating
functional Ty/HIV hybrids and expression of foreign retroelements in
yeast. Candidates should be experienced in biochemistry or molecular
and cell biology. Previous training in yeast genetics is helpful but
not essential.

The position is part of the Division of Basic Sciences of the
National Cancer Institute and is located at the Frederick Cancer
Research and Development Center in Frederick, MD. The National
Institutes of Health is an equal opportunity employer and encourages
all qualified women and minorities to apply. Selection for the
position will be based solely on merit, with no discrimination for
non-merit reasons such as race, marital status, physical or mental
disability, sexual orientation or membership or nonmembership in an
employee organization. Salary range for this position is
$31,500-38,020.
