Perhaps because there are other organisms, such as Entamoeba coli
(sp?) (amoebic dysentery, I believe) (and there is at least one other,
but I cannot recall it at this time) which could be also called E
coli. And, of course if you really wanted to be picky, you may wish to
tag on specific strain, such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 to designate
the specific nasty bug that has made the news lately. But this is a
little picky and off topic ;-)
