POST-DOCTORAL POSITION IN MOLECULAR FUNGAL BIOTECHNOLOGY

An MRC (Medical Research Council) post-doctoral position is available at the
Department of Microbiology, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Research centres on the heterologous expression and characterisation of
human viral proteins in filamentous fungi (Aspergillus species) as the
eucaryotic host, and comprises fundamental and applied aspects. The
position is available for an initial period of two years but extension can
be considered upon satisfactory progress. It is principally a research
position with the minimum of teaching (only at postgraduate level) required.
Excellent research facilities are available in the Department which,
together with large post-graduate research teams and international
collaboration, provide an optimum environment to conduct research of a high
international standard. The project forms part of a larger consortium
programme that also provides for expertise in medical virology and
immunology. The annual remuneration is equivalent to that of a lecturer
without the undergraduate teaching responsibilities usually assigned to such
a position. The position is available as from 1 December 1999 and should be
filled as soon as possible.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Microbiology,
Biochemistry or related research field and must have demonstrated abilities
to conduct creative research independently. Expertise in fungal molecular
genetics (preferably Aspergillus expression systems) and protein
biochemistry is desirable. Qualified individuals are invited to forward
their resumé to:
