A very good question. I recall, as a student, being taught the amoxycillin
was no better than ampicillin- but it was frequently prescribed for
tonsillitis and middle ear infections. Now, I find my kids being prescribed
amoxycillin with clavullanic acid. Is this justified as a first line
antibiotic for a community acquired infection?
