The Manager of Research Computing will be responsible for successfully
architecting, developing, implementing, and maintaining Biogen's
bioinformatics, cheminformatics, and overall research computing capability.
Specifically, s/he will provide the organization with both short and long
term IS strategies that will help Biogen meet its business objectives by: *
Developing an informatics database strategy, including the incorporation of
large genomic databases from collaborations, strategic alliances, and
Biogen's own research efforts * Developing and maintaining applications
systems for the management and analysis of all the client's genomic data *
Developing and maintaining applications systems for the management and
analysis of all the client's instrumentation data * Developing novel
informatics tools and, where appropriate, exploiting emerging web
technologies * Building and managing a staff of information systems
professionals * PhD in biology or chemistry is highly preferred * Several
years of direct, hands-on computer technology experience in a research
setting * Demonstrated record of successful management of both people and
projects, and the ability to work effectively across functional lines *
Expertise in C/C++, Java, and PERL in a UNIX environment; knowledge of
component-based interfaces such as CORBA are a plus BS in Computer Science
or related field with 5 years hands on MAC desktop support experience.
Experience with MAC & PC integration also desired. Must have
advanced/extensive software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
Advanced knowledge of the following operating systems is also required. MAC
O/S 7.X, 8.X, and Novell Netware 4.x,. Experience with PC hardware and the
following operating systems is also desired; Windows '95 and Windows NT
Workstation. The candidate must also posses extensive experience in
archtecting MAC desktop environments and associated support tools as well as
installing and supporting a wide variety of desktop productivity tools that
include, but are not limited to MS Office Tools and Lotus Notes.
Additionally, the candidate must have an exceptional customer service
orientation and excellent communication and problem solving skills. The
individual must be well organized and be able to develop/lead projects and
