I just had a cell biology class in which my professor had a brief spat on this
exact question.  I really can't remember the exact reason.  I think it had to
do with there being 20 amino acids and only 4 bases.  By using the 20 amino
acids, the genetic information would be extremely large.  By using bases, the
genetic information could be condensed into a more managable molecule.  Please
