FACULTY POSITIONS: WEST VIRGINIA STATE COLLEGE
West Virginia State College is seeking applications for two (2) Assistant Professor
positions within the Department of Biology, beginning August 1999:
1. APPLIED MICROBIOLOGIST. We seek an individual with a strong interest in
developing courses and research projects on the application and transfer of
microbiological research to one or more of the following areas: agricultural,
environmental, forestry, bioprocessing or waste management. The successful
candidate will be expected to participate in the development of Land-Grant
activities at the college. Teaching duties include general microbiology and courses
in the candidate's area of expertise. Teaching expertise in one or more of the
following areas is desired: advanced microbiology (e.g., pathogenic microbiology),
virology, immunology, or microbial ecology.
2. ANIMAL BIOLOGIST. The primary responsibility for the person in this position
will be the development of a teaching and research program in Animal Science. The
position will require teaching of General Biology and Zoology, in addition to
advanced courses in the applicant's area of expertise. Research activities
consistent with the College's developing Land-Grant focus are desired, and
candidates with expertise in entomology, aquaculture or fisheries biology will be
given special consideration.
Requirements for both positions include a Ph.D. in an area of the Biological
Sciences and a strong commitment to teaching, advising, service, and working with
campus colleagues. The Department is interested in those applicants that
demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching. The successful
candidates will also be expected to develop research programs involving
undergraduates. Salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
