Nobody was born with the knowledge of molecular biology or chemistry, or any
other scientific field. They also went through university, had a difficult
time and through time learned to be professionals in their fields.
Being crictical towards a student who asks questions is like suffercating
the advancement of science, for as maybe not me, but another student might
make some great scientific advancment someday.
I am sorry for BOTHERING the great sirs of science, my questions, the ones I
possed, are my personal privat questions. They are found nowhere in any
question sheet of mine! Probably they are also too much in detail for what
people expect me to know, but I still want to know. They come up, when I
read through my book, and my biology lecuturer or practicle teacher are not
my room mates, so asking them is more difficult than posting a message here!
Its up to you, to answer me! Its up to you to help me comprehend, or better
understand what I am learning (dont you think I dont have a clue of what I
am asking?) It hurts if biologists (not biology) demotivate me in such a way
(and till now there was no biologist who motivated me).
Well, enough winning, here to better understand me; re-formulating the
question, only the ones interested in answering should the others should
ignore them and leave me in piece:
2 a) What is the function of the alpha-helices by interpheriphial (hope its
correct in english) membran proteins?
- the way I understand it is; that the alpha chain penetrates through the
membrane. Interpheriphial proteins all consist out of a alpha-chain (and
also (seldom) a beta-chain). The function is to hook up the interpheriphial
membrane proteins into the membrane, true or did I miss something?
2 b) What role do amphilic (or amphatic=a lipophil and a hydrophil
character) helices play?
- I am kinnda sure about this one, but please correct me if I am wrong;
amphilic helices consist out of those two parts. The reason is due to the
fact that they act as Tunnelproteins which transport substances from one
side to the other side of the membrane (antiport? or uniport? or else?).
Thats also their role! (Beta helices are more seldom and can (only) be found
by gram-negative Bakteria (please check me on that).
2 c) Do you find also find non-amphatic helices?
- I really dont have that much of a clue about this one, but my assumption
would be yes. My textbook (I use two books; the most important one (the one
I study from): "Zellbiologie" Sitte) mentions them seperately. I understand
that one (the non-amphatic) acts as a hook for proteins, the other one
(amphatic) as tunnelproteins.
As you see I am kinnda confused about this, please help, respond, I will
double-check with my proffesor on Tuesday, please respond as fast as
possible!
