Velveteen for replica plating

Just a suggestion - we always had good results with sterile filter paper over a
couple of tissues, in turn over a large cork. If you can't find the velveteen (I
assume you've tried the shops that sell materials for dressmaking, which is where
we used to get ours), it might be worth a try.
