AFAIK and as far, as I have experienced: The cfu/OD-ratio depends on the
stage of growth of your culture. If you plate from a log-phase culture,
there will be more cfu's than from a stationary-phase culture.
There have been observations that suggest a high ratio of OD/Total cell
count to viable count. I don't know the source yet, but if you are
interested in, I will have a look.
