A local university should have current lab manuals and texts. Try the
microbiology prep room at your local school. I'm not in my office now,
but if you want I can send you a list of titles and publishers. By the
way, have you tried Amazon.com.?
As far as accessories, biological stains are probably the most useful
things to have (as well as a small squirt bottle for washing slides).
Methylene blue or crystal violet are good for looking at both eukaryotic
and prokaryotic cells. Don't forget coverslips for looking at wet
mounts and live specimens.
