Alena A. Antipova
4419, Susnet Dr., #6,
Los Angeles, CA, 90027
I am seeking a position as a research Assistant in Molecular Biology at
Boston Area.
Currently I am a predoctoral research fellow at Dr. Groffen's Lab at the
Department of Pathology of Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles (CHLA).
I received my Master Degree with Honors in Molecular Biology from Moscow
Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) and I did my Diploma Thesis
at the Laboratory of Regulation of Gene Processes at Moscow Institute of
Gene Biology of Russian Academy of Sciences.
My research was focused on the search for new regulatory genes. The
Yellow gene of Drosophila Melanogaster was used as a model system. The
aim of the project was to catch, clone and sequence these genes.
Genetic analysis, hybridization in situ along with other common
molecular biology techniques were used in this work.
After graduation from MIPT I joined Dr. Groffen's Lab in CHLA.
The goal of my project here is to generate genomic clones of a number of
genes involved in cancerogenesis, find possible mutations in these genes
on the level of mRNA and to produce constructs for studying the
expression of these genes in vivo.
My work last year included screening of phage libraries, sequencing,
making various plasmid (in particular cosmid) constructs, RT-PCR of
total RNA from tissue samples of patients and from cell cultures,
Southern blotting.
I regard myself as a scientist and I enjoy doing research in Molecular
Biology, studying new techniques, approaches and methods in this field
and in future I intend to continue my education to get my PhD in
Experimental Biology.
I believe that the experience and the training I have received working
in Lab combined with fundamental knowledge in Molecular Biology,
Chemistry, Math and Computing I have gotten at MIPT will be useful in my
future work.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
