I am interested in understanding the way in which CFUs are distributed
statistically when measured using HPC methods. From the limited data I
have available using samples in the range of 20-300 CFU/ml and processed
using the membrane filtration method per Sec. 9215-c of 'Standard
Methods for Water and Waste Water' I have rejected the Poisson
distribution and am leaning toward a negative binomial. Literature
searches have yielded next to nothing for this phenomenon. I could use
help in supporting or rejecting my assumption of distributional form.
