<+B>

Methicillin-resistant <+">Staphylococcus aureus <-">(MRSA) has been recognised since the 1960's and has become of increasing concern in hospital acquired infection. Treatment of MRSA has been limited with the ever-increasing resis
tance of the organism and drug toxicity. Vancomycin is often the only appropriate antibiotic left to treat serious MRSA infections. The pathogenicity of MRSA, in comparison with methicillin-sensitive
<+">Staphylococcus aureus<-">, has often been underestimated and is still sometimes questioned, though most authorities currently consider MRSA a major threat. Hospital outbreaks of MRSA infections are difficult to control and may require stringent con
tainment measures, incurring considerable expense.

This state-of-the-art meeting examines the emergence of MRSA and addresses various scientific and clinical aspects relating to this important pathogen, including the genetics of methicillin resistance, virulence factors, epidemiology, transmission
and control, and current approaches to treatment.

<+C><:#1988,10468><-(>Methicillin-resistant <+">Staphylococcus aureus <-">(MRSA) has been recognised since the 1960's and has become of increasing concern in hospital acquired infection. Treatment of MRSA has been limited with the ever-increasing resistance of the organism
and drug toxicity.
Hospital outbreaks of MRSA infections are difficult to control and may require stringent contain
ment measures, incurring considerable expense.

<+C><:#284,10468>

<+C><:#852,10468>This state-of-the-art meeting examines the emergence of MRSA and addresses various scientific and clinical aspects relating to this important pathogen, including the genetics of methicillin resistance, virulence factors, epidemiology, transmission and contr
ol, and current approaches to treatment.
