I'm not certain what organism Bob Arnott was
talking about, but you might be referring to a
recent letter in the Lancet from a group of
physicians in London. They have isolated from
two patients strains of Enterococcus faecalis
that appear to not only be resistant to
vancomycin, but also dependent on it for
growth. The letter appears in Volume 348,
Number 9041 of The Lancet. You can download
