Gigot,

A probe is simply a method to detect whatever it is you are interested in.
So, there are many kinds of probes, from temperature probes to nucleic
acid probes used in blotting procedures.  To give you a decent answer, we
need a little more information on what kind of probe you are talking
about, OK?  Then I bet you get Lots of Advice!
