rotten egg smell

Here are two questions which this microbiologist should know the answers to, 
but has forgotten. Can sulfate reducing bacteria be a biological source of  
the rotten egg smell which can be present in water? Which organism is the 
commonest cause of the stink?.....Desulfobacter?
