You can freeze-dry anaerobes as most of other bacteria. For better results, use
a Skim Milk (DIFCO) 10% solution to suspend the strains from a simple agar
plate. Freeze them fast with an ethanol/dry-ice bath and go ahead with
normal freeze-drying procedures.
