I have not worked with Bacillus subtilis for years and I am
going to discard all of my strains, all of which were derived
in the 1960's and early 1970's. Most of the strains are of no
particular interest. However, I still have the original
thymine-requiring strains, which were first described as 168
thy ind and 23 thy his (references on request).
23 thy his has some unusual properties of DNA replication
(reference on request) which may be due to defective ligation
of Okazaki fragments (unpublished speculation).
If anyone would like these for historical reasons or whatever,
I will send vials (spores from 1960's and 1970's) to whoever
first requests them.
