Forgot some on my list of smells:
Who can forget the off cucumbery smell of certain "Leucenstock" and other
lactic acid species... these smells vary from pleasantly aromatic whence
they are the smell of many fermented products to patently unpleasant...
but all have a somewhat piercing smell... presumably from acidic and other
fermentation products.
