Position available as Genetics and Microbiology Teaching Lab Supervisor
This individual will train and instruct graduate student Teaching
Assistants in undergraduate laboratory courses in genetics and
microbiology with respect to their duties and responsibilities in
teaching these courses. The person holding this position will
coordinate these laboratory courses (these duties include helping to
assign Teaching Assistants to the various sections, seeing that needed
reagents are available and solutions are properly prepared, checking
needed lab equipment for proper operation and availability), train and
supervise both full-time and part-time personnel associated with
maintaining these laboratories, maintain stocks of fruit fly mutants as
well as culture bacteria and bacteriophage strains, revise laboratory
curricula and develop new laboratory exercises to keep abreast of
advances in the relevant fields, update and revise the departmental
laboratory manuals associated with these courses, and carry out and/or
direct pilot studies of proposed experiments for troubleshooting
purposes. Some lecturing of undergraduate students, relating to the
laboratory material, will be required. Qualification requirements
include MS degree in genetics, microbiology or biology with 1-2 years
of experience. Persons with BS degree in one of the above disciplines
and 3 or more years of relevant experience will be considered.
