We are currently recruiting for an assistant professorship position
in the areas of environmental microbiology or microbial ecology.
The successful applicant should have a doctoral degree with at
least two years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrated research
productivity, and evidence of potential for excellence in teaching.
Candidates for the position should have a commitment to applying
modern molecular techniques in the analysis of microbial
populations and interactions in biogeochemical processes.
The successful applicant will be expected to teach at the
undergraduate and graduate levels in the area of environmental
microbiology and microbial ecology. In addition, the person should
be able to establish a productive, independent research program and
carry out the normal academic duties associated with a tenure-track
faculty position.
The department currently has 15 faculty members in a variety of
research areas. However, environmental microbiology/ microbial
ecology has traditionally been an area of strength within the
department. The level of extramural support within the department
is over 1.5 million dollars per year. Investigators at the nearby
facilities of Oak Ridge National Laboratories, Tennessee Valley
Authority, National Park Service, Industry and the University
community provide unique potential for productive interactions and
collaborations. The appointee will be expected to become part of
this interacting network.
The starting date for this position is August 1, 1996. Applicants
