POSITION OPEN: Postdoctoral Research Microbiologist (Molecular Biology)
The Biopolymer Research Unit of the USDA National Center for Agricultural
Utilization Research in Peoria, Illinois is seeking a postdoctoral
research associate to do research in the area of molecular genetics of
bacterial polysaccharide biosynthesis and degradation. The incumbent will
work as part of a team developing novel enzymatic and microbial systems
for modifying complex carbohydrate polymers to produce new and useful
carbohydrate-based products. Techniques to be used may include
recombinant DNA methods, site-directed mutagenesis, and classical
mutagenesis. Close cooperation with chemists and enzymologists will be
expected. Experience in microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, and
physiology of bacteria, particularly Gram-positive bacteria, is required.
Position is at GS-11 level, with starting salary of $35,578, and is a
