Methinks that what could be a great product would be a simple (that
virtually anyone can successfully do), cheap test for detecting these
organisms in processing plants, and other areas where presence of these
organisms may be public health hazards.
I am aware of a company in the US which claims a species-specific DNA
probe for all Salmonellae (*I've not seen the data). The company doesn't
have the expertise to develop a good simple test using its probe. I hear
they are looking to license it to whomever will develop it into a test kit.
