May I recommend a good general science book regarding "scary diseases"?
The Coming Plague: newly emerging diseases in a world out of balance, by
Laurie Garrett (1994, 750pp) published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux, NY,
Lib of Congress code RA651.G37, (Sorry, I don't know the ISBN). About $35
Cdn in any good bookstore.
This book seems very well researched, is easy to read, and contains
copious footnotes and references.
