This is really a personal decision that most student face at one point or
another. The trend is unquestionably toward fewer grants making it harder
to make it. I was a tech until I got a Ph.D. fortunately I was able to get
a job, you may not be so lucky unless you are productive, coming from a
top-notch lab. The tech route isn't so bad, I know a lot of people who are
very happy that way, 9-5 science. But if you want ot stick with the Ph.D.
be positive and go all out, then you will get a job.
