Some are looking at other drug classes to combat bacterial infections.
Antimicrobial peptides are being heavily studied- they punch a whole in the
cell membrane of bacteria. The problem is that some bugs have resistance
mechanisms to these peptides as well! Can you believe it? Who's smarter, we
microbiologists, or the bugs??
