I work with a strain of Bacteroides fragilis (gram neg, anaerobic rod) that
produces an enterotoxin. Does anyone have any information that may help
me increase my toxin yields from a standard BHI broth medium ? We have
tried metal ions, bile acids, elevated temperatures, pH variations,
harvesting (time) variations, and enzyme inhibitors, but none seem to
increase the toxin yeilds. We
currently purify approximately 50 micrograms of toxin per liter of culture
filtrate.
