There are dumbbell-shaped bacteria isolated from some environmental (water)
sources that find their way into human infections, particularly nosocomial
infections. These are the organisms formerly called Group II by CDC methods.
These organisms include Flavobacterium meningosepticum and other members
of this Genus.
