While this is understandable, it is a step backwards. The (now) bionet
newsgroups were originally mailing lists and gradually converted into
usenet newsgroups with their own top hierarchy, rather than putting
them into the sci. hierarchy. While this was certainly advantageous
in the beginning (increasing the signal-to-noise ratio considerably),
it now means that lots of spam are not cancelled in the bionet hierarchy
because most cancelbots only watch the "top 8".

Actually, I would agree that a newsgroup with as little traffic as
bionet.software.gcg could as easily be run as a mailing list.
bionet.molbio.methds-reagnts might be a different matter...
