I had an error that can be similar. I try to run seqlab (from
our server) on an old Sun. The system of the sun was not uptodate and
the X server was probably X11R5 or around. WPI worked very well with
this Xserver but seqlab killed it (yep killed!).
I think seqlab uses the last updates of X protocol (should be
X11R6 compatible) and as the old sun, your MacX is to old to display
seqlab.
Can GCG confirm the X compatibility of Seqlab?

P.S.: seqlab work very well on uptodate systems (but the colors are
awfull ;-).
