John Versailles' Pepsort program

Has anyone managed to compile this on an IRIX system under GCG 8.1?
Or GCG 9, for that matter?

On this IRIX 6.4 system, compiling pepsort with the -n32 ABI under GCG
8.1 produced a binary which runs to start with, but dumps core on
certain output routines (FWriteF). It doesn't SEGV whenever FWriteF
is called, but it does so at some of these places.

I have tried compiling using the older -32 ABI, but this fails due to
a bug in preprocessing by the MIPSPro f77 compiler when compiling for
that ABI.

Aaargh. Has anyone succeeded in building this program at all on an
older SGI system (preferably one running IRIX 5.3)? If so, could they
spare me the binaries?

Many thanks,
