Just switch to tcsh. We have no problem here and completion/
corrections fonctions from tcsh are more extended than for bash
(this a biologist point of view. Pure informaticians don't like
tcsh, but for biologists, it's fine).
tcsh seems to be supported by most of the un*x now, and
it allow the use of a general /etc/csh.cshrc and /etc/csh.login which
give administrator a good help (ouch, my english in at a loww
level this afternoon...).

P.S.: We will not start a shell war (not us, guys! he?), tcsh is a very
good interactive shell and 99% of biologists don't write scripts...
