Dear Steve:
	A good rule fo thumb is "for protein sequences over 80 
amino acids long sequences with over 25% IDENTITY (not
similarity)" are related. A good reference is Proteins:
9, 56-81, (Sander & Schneider). Beyond this the field gets
VERY technical.
