FAQs, file format(s)

I would be grateful to know if there is a verified, machine-readable,
publicly available, description of the GCG file format(s), including (if
possible) an algorithm for the checksum*.  I'd need to know that there
wasn't a copyright problem in posting such a document on the Net. 

	BTW is there an FAQ for this group?

*I think I cracked the code, but I need more certainty than that!
