.
Thanks to those who answered my query about pass through printing of GCG
graphics to my HP LaserJet printer. It works great now. :-)
For those of you who would like to do this also, here is what I did:
.
I have an IBM 386 with an HP LaserJet III hooked up to LPT-I and an ethernet
connection to a Silicon Graphics IRIX workstation running GCG system 7 under
UNIX system V in the C-shell. (I have also done this on a VAX system).
.
I have used the vi editor to modify my login.com file to include the
following commands:
.
hpgl laserjetiii term
alias print listfile
.
This sets the environment to send output in Hewlet Packard Graphics Language,
for a LaserJetII or III (either will work), and directs the output to be
sent directly to the terminal (my 386) which routes it to LPT-I.
.
The alias command is useful for printing text of *.seq or *.pair files.
.
On my pc end, I added a 3meg memory module to my printer to give me 4megs of
printer memory. Then I set the printer defaults to "FORM-66", and the
"PAGEPROTECT=LTR" (on the printer, not the pc).
.
I now launch GCG from a batch file out of windows, which forces all my
labmates to read my instructions and etiquete sheet each time they log in.
This is not relevent to pass through printing, but I thaught some might
like to know that windows will not interfere with the process.
.
The commands are very similar for VAX, but you have to use EDLIN instead of
vi, and I don't know about the alias command.
.
Good Luck, and thanks for the help.
